Workshop Dates:

  • Thursday, Saturday, October 22nd, 11-2pm

In this 3-hour workshop you will learn all the basics of how to shoot using the manual controls of your 35mm film camera including understanding the basics of aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how to use your camera’s light meter. We will also cover the basics of focus, focal length, depth of field and using your camera’s shutter speed to create different effects with fast-moving moving subjects. No prerequisites or previous experience required.

Students will leave this workshop with one shot/exposed roll of film and a better understanding of the manual functions of their 35mm film camera.

Required Materials: a 35mm film camera in full working order. Before attending please check that your camera’s battery is still good (all cameras will have a battery) and that your camera’s shutter release is working - i.e. the button you use to take a picture should release the shutter and make a sound when pressed. If you do not have your own camera, we will have a couple on hand for borrowing.

*Due to COVID-19, we are requiring all workshop participants and instructors to wear N95 or KN95 masks. Please bring your own - If you do not have one, we will have some available in the studio as well.

Provided: A roll of 35mm black and white film will be provided for each student

Note: This workshop is for shooting with 35mm film cameras only. Shooting with digital cameras will not be covered. Film processing and darkroom printing are covered in separate workshops.
