Intro to Laser and Vinyl Cutter

Get certified to laser-cut wood, plastics, papers or textiles on the Epilog Mini AND learn how to use the vinyl cutter to make stickers and signs!

  • Tuesdays, July 9 + 16, 6-9pm

This class will cover the basics of using the laser and vinyl cutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and software tools for preparing work for the cutters.

Our laser cutter is an Epilog Mini 24 The work area is 24" x 12", and it can hold items up to 8" tall. We also have a cylindrical attachment that allows you to etch cylinders such as glassware. AS220's vinyl cutter is a Roland Camm-1 CX-24 and can take vinyl rolls of 15" and 24" in width.

After taking the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of what the machine can do and how to design a project and will be certified to use the Labs' laser cutter.

While it's not mandatory, we strongly encourage students to have experience with vector design

Location and Parking:
AS220 Labs is located at the Mercantile at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island on the 1st and 2nd floors. The shop's entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way; ring the bell by the double doors if locked. There is 2 hour metered on-street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.

Important Class Policies: 
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn and arrive on time. If you are more than half an hour late, we will not be able to teach you. Plan ahead, it always takes time to find on-street parking.

To cancel your reservation, you must email labs@as220.org at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.

Cancellation of Classes
If the minimum number is not met in class enrollment, the teacher may opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will attempt to give as much notice as possible.
