Book Arts Workshop: Make Your Own Bookcloth and Book!
Learn to make your own bookcloth and accordion book in this single session workshop!
- Workshop Date: Sunday, October 24, 11am - 3pm
Do you want to upcycle a piece of old clothing or awesome fabric into a book cover? Why can’t you use regular fabric as is? Well, the glue is going to seep through the weave of the fabric. Fabric needs to be backed by paper to give it some stability. Paper-backing your own fabric, printed with your own artwork or design, is another way to personalize a handmade book.
In this class, students will learn two methods of paper-backing fabric, using either glue or iron-on method. We’ll also make a sample accordion book with the handmade bookcloth. You should come to class with a bone folder and any sample fabric (5”x5”) you’d like to paper-back. Fabric should be tight weave and no sheers or lace. Cotton, silk, hemp or rayon recommended.
