Introduction to Digital SLR Photography - Intensive

Bring the intimidation factor from 10 to 0! Saturday September 8th, 10am to 6pm. Come Equipped with your DSLR camera and get set to learn it like the back of your hand in this special one-day intensive. After this class you'll feel confident using your DSLR, and capture those pictures you've been wanting. Weather permitting, we'll go on a photo walk around downtown Providence.
During the first part of the class, students will learn camera basics including the camera body and all its ports and parts, the lens, focus and depth of field, exposure (f-stops, shutter speed and iso), white balance, and file settings. Students will take some snap shots in the studio to explore concepts along the way. 
After a lunch break, students will learn about composition concepts and natural lighting. Putting all the pieces together, the group will walk around the downtown and practice the magic of photography! At the end of the course students will also learn how transfer their images onto a computer.

Location and Parking

The AS220 Media Arts Lab at the Mercantile is located at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island on the 2nd floor (# 202). There is 2 hour metered on-street parking available, bring your quarters. Also we are located near a parking garage with Entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.

Important Class Policies

Please be respectful of the short time you and the other Participants Have to learn, and arrive on time. If you are more than half an hour late, we will not be Able to teach you what you signed up for. Plan ahead, always it Takes Time to find on-street parking.  To cancel your reservation, you must email at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.


If minimum number is not met enrollment in class, the teacher May opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of payment and first class choice to enroll in future classes. We will Attempt to give as much notice as possible.
